Joseph Stipanowich papers, 1928-2008.

Papers of Joseph Stipanowich, 1921-2008. Stipanowich, a native of Canton, Illinois, was a 1946 graduate of Western Illinois State College, a faculty member of the Western Illinois University Mathematics Department from 1947-1984, and a resident of Macomb, Illinois. In addition to teaching mathematics, he was active with the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the First Christian Church of Macomb, and the Macomb Rotary Club. He and his wife Mary had two children, Tom and Jim. The collection includes scrapbooks assembled by Joe later in life, which document his numerous achievements throughout his career; a series of professional materials documenting his professional activities in teaching, service, and scholarship; and a small collection of personal memorabilia including materials from his activities in the church and the Rotary club. Also included is his dissertation, titled "The development and appraisal of a course in basic mathematics for prospective elementary-school teachers." Photographs have been separated from the collection and stored in the Archives' vault room.
